In order to understand why I built FIELDPAY, let's take a look at the past. From 1990 to 2010, there were a handful of software companies building tools for the service industry. All of us sold what we called "on-premise" software, meaning we installed our software on your computers at your office. Back then, we charged a fair, ONE-TIME price for the software and a small annual maintenance fee for updates and help desk support. The software business was like any other; the provider charged a fair fee, and customers got something great at a reasonable cost.
About 10 years ago, the software industry started to change. Corporate greed crept in, all of my competitors sold out to private equity firms, and they rolled out a new pricing model called SaaS (software as a service). What does that mean? As a business owner, you now have to pay for the use of the software FOREVER. Sure, it takes less money to get in the game, but in a few years you could pay 2-3 times MORE in non-stop recurring charges.
