The OLD Way
There are no shortcuts to greatness. You've got to go through the pain to get to the GREAT. We all know this. Even so, sometimes business owners break down and subscribe to Price Books as a Service (PBaaS). It sounds good on the front end, but you could end up paying big on the back end.
There are a multitude of companies that provide canned price books. They take your service tech's hourly rate, overhead, profitability, and other metrics, then run them through some calculations and spit out a MASSIVE listing of items. Those items have manufacturer details, including a nice paragraph with pictures that the customer sees on their quote. In the end you'll get upwards of 5,000 or more items set and ready to ROCK!
Here's the catch. You have to pay an endless monthly subscription fee for the price book. And, after you've used the price book for 6 months, you start paring down those 5,000 unwieldy items to a more manageable 300-500 items. Over the next year, you go in and change the prices to more align with your local market, and you make significant changes to the text descriptions that appear on the customers' quotes. Soon, the price book that you paid for no longer looks or feels like the one you initially purchased.

You already know the most common items. Those items may even already exist in your QuickBooks items list. If so, you can easily import them into FIELDPAY.
Next, you can create your first price book, deciding how you want to lay it out. You'll have a blast with this part. YOU decide what best fits your business. In the screen at the top of this page, we started with three main categories: ELECTRICAL, HVAC, and PLUMBING. Then, under PLUMBING, we added sub categories for DRAINS, EXPANSION TANKS, PEX FITTINGS, etc.

Once you've decided on your sub-categories, you can add individual items or item groups. Item groups give you a super fast way to build quotes. They allow you to increase default quantities—on the fly—for multiple sets of items.
Once you build your price books, the service tech just taps and drills down, right to the item or item group they need. They'll love the ease of use, on any device!
